MARCH ALES MEETING - SOURS

Next meeting is Wednesday March 6, 2018.

We have Mark Heise of Rebellion presenting on sour beers. He was a past ALES exec member and is also a certified beer judge, an integral part of the brewing community, training new judges, giving public speeches, writing extensively and proud to say he’s had a hand helping professional brewers from Halifax to California develop new recipes *1.

Rebellion took a Bronze medal at the World Beer Cup in 2018 for their Flanders Sour Ale, under the Belgian-Style Flanders Oud Bruin or Oud Red Ale category.

If you have ever tried this beer you can understand why they won a medal, and if you have not you should go to Rebellion taproom or Sobey’s and pick one up. It should not be missed.

Speaking of sours, Rebellion also has their Flanders Sour Red on tap and a Peach Ginger Sour.

El Dorado

Alpha Acid 13-17%

Dual Purpose hop with tropical fruit flavors and aromas of pear, watermelon, and stone fruit.

Idaho 7

Alpha Acid 9-12%

Dual Purpose variety with zesty orange, tangerine, marmalade, pine and black tea notes. Typical Brewing Styles: IPA, Pale Ale , & American Wheat Beers. Possible substitution (click to shop): Citra

Alpha Acid 15-17%

Dual Purpose variety with banana, pear, orange and spicy notes. Typical Brewing Styles: American IPA and Farmhouse Ales

 Hallertau

Alpha Acid 4.3%

Aroma Variety with mild herbal, floral and earth aromas. Typical Brewing Styles: Lager, Pilsner, Bock, Wheat, Weizen. Possible Substitutions (click to shop): US Hallertau, Ultra or Liberty
