Finding Beer in Pittsburgh

Last June, I traveled to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for a conference and naturally scoped out as much good beer as I could in the area.  I was staying at Carnegie Mellon University, in an area of Pittsburgh called Oakland.  With CMU and University of Pittsburgh both situated in the area, I figured there must be somewhere to get good beer nearby.  Although craft beer was not as available as I had hoped, I did manage to find a couple spots.

You Can't Win if You Don't Enter

I try to encourage everyone in our club to enter competitions.  Yes, beer is a social thing, and our club certainly wants to promote this aspect and have lots of fun, but we ultimately are a Brewing club, not a Party or Drinking club.  Feedback is important.  I want to be a better brewer, and I want you to be better brewer too.  We can do this through informal tastings, but competitions are the closest you can get to unbiased feedback and assessment.

Regina's Beer Culture

A while back the Canadian Tourism Commission was in Regina to showcase our outstanding beer culture.  I had the opportunity to be part of the shoot, as well as Grant from Bushwakkers and Chef Malcolm at Beer Bros.  Check out the video and let me know what you think!

 

 

ALES Homebrew Open 2009 - Results
